Post Office & Shop

Canonbie Post Office and Shop has been part of the village for many years and is the only shop we have in the village. The next nearest place to buy groceries and access Post Office services is Longtown 6 miles south and Langholm 6 miles north. The Shop & Post Office is ran from an annex of The Cross Keys Hotel next door.

In 2023 the current owner express his desire to retire as Post Master. After initial discussions with Canonbie & District Community Council a group of enthusiastic community members formed the Canonbie Community Enterprise to try to Save Our Shop and have been working tirelessly on this project ever since.

We are committed as a community to keep these vital services within the village. We do not have access to banking in Canonbie other than in the Post Office, if we loose this service it will be very challenging especially for the older generation who do not have online banking. For those that do not drive it is difficult to travel as our bus services is limited and for some residents the shop is the only  place to buy essential groceries.

We continue to fundraise and plan to take over the Post Office and Shop by June 2025.
